Evangelist LaNora Means
In the previous page "divers kinds of tongues" (unknown tongues) were discussed. Now to
take a closer look at what brings even greater edification is when these unknown tongues
that are supernaturally spoken through the Spirit of God by a believing individual are
supernaturally interpreted (translated) by another believer (or even the one God uses to
speak it- 1 Cor. 14:13). The interpretation from an unknown tongue to a known tongue brings
understanding to what was said. As "divers kinds of tongues" are unknown by the believing
individual speaking them and thus Divinely spoken; it is also so with the interpretation in that
the believing interpreter would not normally understand what is being said because it is
translated by The Holy Spirit of God Divinely spoken through the believing individual who is
obedient to God in bringing it forth. The tongue spoken is unknown in the natural sense, yet
supernaturally known by interpretation which is Divinely given by The Holy Spirit of God so
that understanding is fruitful for not only oneself but to the benefit of others present. This
means it is put into words that are understood but not necessarily a word by word
translation. That would explain why these different tongues may be spoken longer than the
interpretation, or possibly vice versa. The supernatural interpretation brings forth in an
understandable language of what was spoken in a different language; therefore, The
message Divinely inspired of God is verbally given through The Power of The Holy Spirit and
denotes prophecy (see page "Prophecy, the manifestation gift"). To state it more plainly, this
Divinely spoken language encourages with confirmation and comfort those who believe; and,
it even brings judgment to those who would have refused before but now have their hearts
open and exposed in conviction of their lives before God, and they would "...report that God
is in you of a truth." (1 Cor. 14:25). This revelation could cause those who disbelieve the
concept of supernatural tongues to glorify God for these wonderful works of God possibly
even placing a desire in their hearts to seek these gifts. Also, it can be noted that those who
have never accepted The Lord could have their hearts pricked in great conviction to accept
The Lord to the saving of their soul. There is a great need of benevolent love for the gift of
tongues to be fruitful, because it's stated in 1 Corinthians 13:1, "Though I speak with the
tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a
tinkling cymbal." Without love in the ways of God and desire for others to be benefited, it
becomes mere noise that is heard. Language itself is only useful if it is manifested, or
knowledgeable, or inspired, or if it is used as instruction. In the Corinthian church, there was
a lack of knowledge concerning these spiritual gifts, because disruption and confusion played
a part in the order of their services. Correction was needed in order for The Holy Spirit to
flow through everyone in a proper manner. That way there would not be noise and
confusion and also interruption by questions during worship from those who were unlearned
at that time. Praise God for the enlightenment and understanding that God gives through His
Grace that all those who earnestly seek God can be used in these gifts!
